Webinars

JKHS Wednesday Webinars is a new initiative to reach out to parents and students with important information on a range of topics.  This autumn we're holding a series of ten webinars led by both experienced JKHS staff and guest speakers.  Most are relevant to both Parents/Carers and Students (please note the 'eSafety' webinar is parents only).  Webinars this term will be every Wednesday evening, starting at 6pm and you can join via the Microsoft Teams links below.

25th October - Cambridge Nationals NEA Coursework for GCSE Students

This week's webinar focuses on the 'Non Examined Assessments' that form part of the courses in Business and Computer Science.  They are hugely important as they make up around 30% of the final GCSE grade.  In this webinar Sophie Jones (Head of Computing) and Jasmine Hawkins (Head of Business) share their top tips for parents and students on how to get the most out the NEA.

8th November - "How to prepare for your speaking exam" - Year 11 MFL Students

In this webinar Liz Colclough (Head of Modern Foreign Languages) will explain to students and parents how to best prepare for the speaking component of the assessment.   The speaking component makes up 25% of the overall mark and in this webinar Liz will be sharing information about the structure of the exam and will give revision strategies that you can use to make sure you get the highest possible grade.

15th November - Drug Awareness

In this webinar Dave Parvin from Drug Sense UK (www.drugsenseuk.co.uk) shares the knowledge he's built as both a Police Drugs Squad officer and an experienced drugs educator.   Dave is a fantastic presenter with a really engaging, non-judgemental, style and we're really excited that he's agreed to be part of our Autumn Wednesday Webinar series.  This is a must attend event for all parents and carers in our community.

22nd November - eSafety

6.00 to 7.00 pm: Online Safety presented by Katherine Howard of Smoothwall. Katherine has also worked with the Heart of Mercia MAT and has also delivered outstanding sessions in the past for us. Katherine is a national expert on keeping young people safe online and her session is designed specifically for parents to help you navigate the often-confusing world of online safety.

6th December - Special Educational Needs Support (SEND) at JKHS

Our aim at JKHS is to become a regional specialist in special educational needs and we're plotting at path towards that goal.  In this webinar Alex Rees, our new Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) will provide an overview of the support available at JKHS for students who have SEND, as well as offering practical tips for both parents and students.

13th December - Preparation for Year 12 Mocks

In this webinar Luke will run through research proven revision tips, from making a revision timetable to actually sitting down and revising, Luke will cover all the key things you need to know to revise (or help your son/daughter!).
