At John Kyrle High School, we operate a clear, fair, and transparent process for the administration and allocation of the 16-19 Bursary Fund. We are committed to ensuring that students and their parents/carers are fully informed about the financial support available, the eligibility criteria, and how to apply.

All bursary funding is allocated in line with government guidance and the requirements of the Equality Act 2010. Applications are considered fairly and without discrimination, either directly or indirectly.

Who is Eligible?

The 16-19 Bursary Fund is a government-funded, means-tested scheme designed to support students who may face financial barriers to participating fully in their studies.

To be eligible, students must normally be under the age of 19 on 31 August in the academic year in which they begin their programme of study. Full details of eligibility criteria can be found in the Bursary Fund Policy below.

How to Apply

Each September, the Head of Sixth Form provides information about the bursary application process during a Sixth Form assembly. A letter is also sent to parents/carers outlining the application process, eligibility criteria, and application deadline.

John Kyrle High School sets an initial application deadline each year to allow all applications to be considered together. This ensures that discretionary awards can be allocated fairly and based on the overall level of demand for financial support.

Applicants will be required to provide supporting evidence as part of the application process.

Once applications have been assessed, students will be notified of the outcome in writing. The award letter will confirm:

• The value of the bursary award;
• What the bursary has been awarded for;
• Whether goods or services will be purchased directly by the school, or whether payment will be made to the student;
• The expected payment date, where applicable, via BACS transfer.
