    School Transport post 16

Unfortunately, once a student reaches Sixth Form, they are no longer eligible for free home-to-school transport.

We encourage students to walk or cycle to school wherever possible, as this supports both their physical and mental wellbeing while also reducing environmental impact. To support active travel, we provide a large, purpose-built cycle shelter with CCTV security, together with two pedestrian entrance and exit gates to the school site. Students who cycle to school are strongly encouraged to wear a cycle helmet and high-visibility clothing.

If walking or cycling is not practical, we encourage students to travel by bus. Bus travel helps to reduce congestion around the school, minimise pollution and carbon emissions, and reduce disruption to our local community. Further information about available bus services can be found below.

Where travel by car is unavoidable, we ask parents and carers to consider car sharing where possible and to be mindful of local residents. Vehicles must not stop in the yellow-boxed area at the front of the school or enter the school site unless collecting a student who is unwell or has mobility needs.

Students wishing to travel by bus have three options:

    1. Herefordshire Council school transport
    2. JKHS contracted bus services
    3. Public service buses

More information about each option is provided below.

    Herefordshire Council Transport

Students who previously travelled on a Herefordshire Council school transport service and wish to continue using this service during their Sixth Form studies should apply for their place well in advance through Herefordshire Council.

The current charge for the 2026–27 academic year is £1,060 per Post-16 student.

For further information, including eligibility details, costs and the application process, please visit the Herefordshire Council webpage: Post-16 School and College Transport.

If you have any questions regarding Council transport provision, you can contact the Herefordshire Council School Transport team at: schooltransport@herefordshire.gov.uk

We recommend applying as early as possible to help ensure transport arrangements are in place before the start of the academic year.

    JKHS Contracted Buses

JKHS contracts external transport providers to operate five dedicated school bus services: three serving the Forest of Dean area and two minibus services serving the Little Dewchurch and Much Birch area.

Tickets for these services are available through our ticketing partner, ShuttleID, and can be purchased either as a single annual payment or through monthly Direct Debit instalments.

Students are issued with a unique QR code, which is scanned by the driver each time they board the bus. This system allows parents and carers to:

    • Confirm that tickets are valid and active
    • Receive notifications when their child boards the bus
    • Access journey tracking information

This provides an easy and secure way to manage school transport while keeping families informed about their child's journey to and from school.

    Ticket Prices and Payment Options

Tickets for JKHS contracted bus services can be paid either in full or by nine monthly Direct Debit instalments. An initial £25 deposit is required to secure a place, with Direct Debit payments collected from September 2026 to May 2027.

There are four ticket options available for the 2026–27 academic year:
