    Mission and Aims

    The iMedia and Computer Science Department at John Kyrle High School is dedicated to preparing students for a rapidly changing digital world. We aim to develop every student’s knowledge, skills, and experiences in a fun, interactive, and motivating way.

    Through well-planned lessons and a forward-thinking curriculum, our enthusiastic and committed staff deliver high-quality, student-centred teaching that supports curiosity, creativity, and growth in an ever-evolving world.

    Key Stage 5 Courses

    A Level Computer Science

    Core maths needed if not doing A-Level Maths

    This A Level Computer Science course enables students to deepen their understanding of the core principles of computing. Students will explore real-world systems, undertake an independent programming project, and gain a thorough grounding in computational thinking and problem-solving.

    Lessons cover both advanced programming and theoretical principles, helping students to analyse, design, and implement creative digital solutions.

    Exam Board: OCR
    Specification: A Level Computer Science (H446)

    Assessment

    • Exams: 80% (two written papers, 40% each, sat at the end of Year 13)

    • Coursework: 20% (one independent programming project completed in Year 13)

    BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Information Technology

    This Pearson BTEC IT course is a practical and hands-on qualification designed for students who enjoy applied learning and want to explore a range of IT topics.

    Students study four key units — two externally assessed and two coursework-based — which together provide a strong foundation for further study or employment within the digital and computing sectors.

    Qualification: BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Information Technology
