DofE
Duke of Edinburgh Award
At John Kyrle High School, we are proud to offer students the opportunity to take part in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) — a nationally recognised programme that encourages young people to challenge themselves, develop new skills and build confidence. The DofE is run at JKHS by Mr Calderbank, who leads and supports students throughout their journey.
The Award is available at three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold, each offering an exciting and rewarding experience.
-
Bronze is open to students aged 14 and over (typically Year 9).
-
Silver is for those aged 15 and over.
-
Gold is for students aged 16 and over, often continuing their DofE journey beyond school.
Each level involves taking part in four key sections — Volunteering, Physical, Skills, and Expedition — with the Gold Award including an additional Residential section. Students choose their own activities, allowing them to pursue personal interests while developing teamwork, leadership, and resilience.
Completing a DofE Award is a fantastic achievement that is highly valued by colleges, universities, and employers. It’s a chance to try new things, make lasting memories, and discover just how much you’re capable of.
